FRONTERA! (2014)
The Pueblo Revolt had to happen. Life was out of balance. Drought, hunger, colonial violence and religious persecution brought indigenous societies of New Mexico to the brink of collapse. The Pueblo people orchestrated the unthinkable: a pan-Indian uprising successfully expelling the Spanish occupiers from the entire Rio Grande. The documentary animation, “Frontera!” traces these seminal events with Native narrators recall this living history through humor, music, rap and cartoons.
This documentary animated project was co-produced by Santa Fe natives and residents Lee Moquino (Santa Clara) and Aimee Villarreal (Dr. Villarreal has since moved to San Antonio for an academic position). The principal Voice-over actors were Conroy Chino (Acoma) and Andrea Serrano who reside in Albuquerque. Warren Tsishpiah Montoya (Santa Ana/Santa Clara) was a principle animator on the project.
